Marcelo devastated after Brazil got kicked out by Belgium

Real Madrid’s left back expected going all the way in Russia but saw the Brazilian squad come up short in a quarter-final tie with Belgium

He admitted that Brazil have been hurt after enduring a terrible night against Belgium in the quarter-finals of World Cup 2018. The Selecao entered the last encounter in Russia as favourites to go all the way and claim a sixth crown. If you would like to predict other matches, click here.

Tite’s team is, however, going home after suffering a 2-1 defeat to the Belgian Red Devils. Marcelo feels the final result was unfair on Brazil, who dominated for long periods, and is disappointed to have seen his dreams crushed in frustrating and unexpected circumstances.

To Globo Esporte, he told: “It hurts. It was a horrible night. It is difficult to explain. The result did not come for us. Football is sometimes unfair – sometimes it is in your favour, other times against you. We’ve created a family here. Everyone fought together, even those who did not play were backing us from the bench. We wanted so much to reach the final. I think they were better in the first 15 minutes. But then we had chances on goal. Even in the first half it could have been different. In the second half we controlled the game, we had several occasions where the goalkeeper saved or the ball hit a defender. But football is like this, whoever scores the most goals wins.

That night, Brazil fired 27 shots, while Belgians made only nine. They were left with just Renato Augusto’s header to show for their efforts, though, with an own goal from Fernandinho and an amazing strike from De Bruyne putting them to the bottom.

Belgium will face France in the semi-finals while Brazil are left to reflect on their bad choices.
